I graduated in May of 2001 from Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Surveying. In December of 2007 I became licensed to practice land surveying in the State of Arkansas.

What is Surveying?

Surveying is the art and science of relating points and features on the earth's surface to a paper or electronic drawing. An example would be creating a map of a town showing property lines, buildings, and topographic contours. The inverse is also true: surveyors translate information shown on a drawing to the ground. A surveyor may be called upon to provide a construction crew with the horizontal and vertical alignment of a new highway that is only shown on a set of plans. This is commonly achieved by marking many, many points of the roadway along the ground.

A surveyor would likely (or definitely) be involved in road and building construction, subdivisions, or land sales, to name a few. Tools used can be something as simple as a compass and pacing to the latest in GPS technology. Please visit Wikipedia or SurveyingCareer.com for more information.
